Looking back to 1838, New York Mills had become the largest cotton manufacturer outside of New England and Mill #3 was erected. This mill was 229 feet long with a cupola to house the curfew bell. The bell rang at 6am to start the work day and 9pm to warn all the children to be in their homes or their parents would be reprimanded.
